Mostly baking cupcakes...

♥ Ceri makes... has been offline for a few days mostly due to LOTS of baking birthday cupcakes! Seem to have mastered the basic Vanilla Hummingbird Cupcake recipe so I'm trying to be a bit more creative with my decorations. My best make so far has to be the 'Top Gun' themed cupcakes I whipped up for my friend Russ' 80s Top Gun party, a bit of clever colouring and some royal icing decorations look fab...

Also had a first attempt at the Chocolate Hummingbird Cupcake recipe, which may not look as impressive definitely passed the taste test ...yummy! x

A spot of reupholstering...

♥ Ceri makes... had a lovely relaxing weekend, but still managed to finish off a mini project of bringing a somewhat tired bench back to life! A bit of sanding down, a couple of coats of duck egg blue gloss paint, some cute spotted oil cloth a staple gun and some trusty double sided sellotape transformed the bench below from this...

to this...

Check back later this week for an easy to follow guide to make these cute letter cushions. Or if sewing fills you with dread pop an email to cerimakes@gmail.com for prices x

A week of healthy (but yummy) suppers...

Monday starts with a Coconut Prawn & Rice Salad...

This recipe was originally taken from my favourite foodie magazine Olive.  As an Olive magazine subscriber I like to try out as many of the recipes featured as possible,  its like having a new cookery book delivered each month!

Most of the recipes featured in Olive magazine are also available on the BBC Good Food website (...much used by my housemates and I when seeking out recipes!).  The recipe for Monday's supper Coconut & Prawn Rice Salad can also be found here!  Enjoy x

Pancake time...

Enjoying some delicious pancakes for shrove Tuesday.

My easy peasy pancake recipe...

♥ Measure one cup of self-raising flour & one cup of milk into a bowl or large jug

♥ Whisk together (...don't worry if you don't have a whisk, a fork will suffice!)

♥ After a minute or two of whisking add an egg and mix until you have a smooth batter

♥ Heat a little butter in a shallow based pan and make sure the pan is really hot

♥ Ladle a spoonful of the mixture into the pan, once the pancake has turned golden on the underside you are ready to flip!

♥ Cook for not quite a minute until it is golden on both sides and then you are ready to tuck in!

Ethical Fashion in the Age of Austerity...

♥ Ceri makes...  enjoyed a crafty evening at The Papered Parlour's Ethical Fashion event held at the Victoria & Albert Museum of Childhood.  The main hall was a buzz of crafty stalls selling everything from handmade accessories to ethically sourced digital print fabrics.  Alongside this there were lots of demonstrations and 'craft guerilla' activities to get stuck in with  ...from a jewellery workshop with Tatty Devine (loving their name necklaces!) to sewing with the Shoreditch Sisters WI!

A couple of stalls caught my eye in particular...

DIY Couture - a collection of beautifully put together set of books containing easy to follow,  visual instructions to help the reader create a garment rather than purchasing.

The Create Place - a non-profit venture that run crafty workshops that fund free skills sessions in the local community;  so not only can you nip to a workshop to learn anything from quilt making to book binding you are also giving someone else the opportunity to learn too.  Crafts come full circle!

Fine Cell Work - a small selection of needlework products crafted by prison inmates across the country; providing prisoners with the opportunity to learn new skills and earn a small income.  With some gorgeous designs donated by Celia Birtwell and Cath Kidston among others.

So now I'm feeling inspired to get crafty at the weekend.

Happy Friday for tomorrow x
